I’m Benjamin Telkamp — a statistics teacher and researcher, and for more than twenty-five years I have been helping people who had come to think statistics was “not for them”. Under the name WISI (Wiskunde & Statistiek Inzichtelijk, Mathematics & Statistics Made Clear) I work with the school pupil who has lost the thread, the student whose exam is coming far too fast, and the PhD candidate with a mountain of data and a deadline — and with the psychologist, or anyone else, who reads research for work or out of curiosity and would like to know what it actually says.

My work is not rattling off formulas. It is explaining hard material so that real understanding takes hold — not a trick that’s gone by next week.

Everything on this site is free for anyone who learns from it on their own, and it will stay that way — clarity is something I like giving away. But sometimes you need more than a book: someone who sits down beside you and works through it with you until it clicks. That is what you can hire. The books are free; my time isn’t. More about where I come from and what I have done is in my CV.

One-to-one help with maths & statistics

One-to-one, at your pace, in English or in Dutch. I look for the short route and the picture that sticks — not dry rules, but understanding that adds up. That works especially well if you tend to switch off at dense text and long explanations; I’m like that myself, and I teach with that in mind. From secondary school and university to a research paper you want to make sense of, for your job or for yourself — with SPSS, R or JASP if you use them.

Crash courses & exam training

Exam in sight and the material still not sinking in? In a few focused sessions we go from panic to a plan: what you really need to be able to do, which test answers which question and why, and how to work it out without getting lost halfway.

Thesis supervision

Stuck in your thesis or dissertation? I stay with you from research question to analysis to write-up: choosing the right method, running the statistics on your data (SPSS, R or JASP), and getting your results onto the page, neatly and in APA style.

Research supervision

For PhD candidates and researchers I’m a second pair of eyes from analysis plan to article: choosing models and running them in R, making the case for methodological choices, getting tables and figures ready for APA, and answering the reviewers’ questions before they ask them. From raw data to a manuscript that holds up — the work a data scientist does, but done so that you understand what is happening yourself, and can defend it. I have done this for PhD candidates at GGZ Delfland (a Dutch mental-health provider), among others.

AI, but with understanding

A language model will give you a quick answer to your statistics question — just not always the right one. I help you judge the output, take the mistakes out and understand what it actually says, so that you use AI as a tool and not as a black box you simply have to trust.

Guest lectures & workshops

For degree programmes, universities of applied sciences and teams, I teach statistics that sticks: a guest lecture, a workshop or a series made to measure, taught the same way as the books on this site.

And sometimes it isn’t only about the sums. With the students and researchers I supervise, the conversation often turns to everything around the work as well — getting stuck, making choices, what you are actually doing it for. If you want that, there is room for it.

Rates

I don’t have a fixed price list: what it costs depends on what is needed, and that differs rather a lot between a single tutoring session and seeing a whole research project through. Just ask, and I’ll send you a quote that fits. And if money is tight? Say so — then we’ll see what can be done. Clarity shouldn’t come down to money.
