The toy box
Small things that just run in your browser. You guess, you shuffle, you read off a number, you take something apart. Nothing to install, and nothing to win.
Guessing
You put your number down before you know for sure. That is the honest way round.
The elephant’s memory
You guess the correlation of a cloud of points and press the button. In the corner stands an elephant. He does nothing. For a while.
Shuffling
Shuffle the data until nothing belongs together, then count how far chance gets on its own.
Shuffle it — correlation
A few hundred penguins and their beaks. Shuffle, and see whether “longer is also deeper” survives chance.
Reading off
Not a simulation but a dial: you already have a number, and here you see where it stands.
Read a p-value
You copy t(38) = 2.24 out of a paper; the number appears on the curve, and the p-value turns out to be the shaded tail.
Taking apart
One change, and you take it apart into the pieces it is made of.
The judgement of Solomon
Four groups, one therapy, and a pretest that does something of its own. Step by step you take the first group’s improvement apart into four pieces, until only one is left: what the pretest and the therapy do together. Then, as an encore, the same four pieces come out of a single regression. (in Dutch)
The rest of the box is in Dutch for now, in de speelkist.
